EFL054 – Electric for Life 054 – Gareth Emery
So much to talk about on this week’s EFL. We’ll start off with the conqueror of The Track of The Week: underground British Indie band, Dead Ceremony. Not much is known about the ensemble, except that they hail from Kent “The Garden of England,” UK, and is comprised of 4 long term friends. The boys have been around since 2013, and their new hit single ‘Losing You,’ produced with 80’s like synth beats and combined with solemn vocals and wistful lyrics, was tastefully remixed by 7dials. 7dials is very new to the scene, and it turns out that this is actually their debut jam! Not much is known about them either, and I say “them” because of their Facebook posts containing the words “our release.” Upon further investigation, one commenter wrote on their EFL related post: “Well done Christian. Tune of the week!” So we know at least that one of the members is a male. Released on Zerothree Music, the debut track also won a spot on Gareth Emery’s latest EFL 2015 Compilation, which can now be ordered on his site.
Following Gareth’s accomplishments this year has been nothing more than an incredible experience. With his popular online radio show, his fruitful EFL tour, his successful EFLDay, and now his awesome 3 disc compilation album which is the supreme embodiment of what “Electric For Life” has brought us through the year, one can’t help but wonder… “How on earth does he do it?” The family man is raging with success and triumph, and all we can do is applaud him on his endeavors.
The Classic of the Week goes to the formerly known Dutch Progressive trance duo Three Drives and their 1997 hit single ‘Greece 2000.’ Originally released by Massive Drive Recordings, it is still a very popular tune in the EDM scene as it has been remixed countless time throughout the years by big names like DJ Chus from Spanish producers Chus and Ceballos, and Sander van Dien, just to name a few. Although the group’s founders parted ways in June 2014, active member Erik de Koning still produces on a full-time, daily basis. He has completed residencies in Rotterdam for 3 years, spun his records in Canada, Italy, Spain, Finland and the UK as well. Former member Ton van Empel has played all over the world on big events and has released his tracks under many pseudonyms, such as Tangled Universe, Legal Traders and Department 1.
Throughout the show, our eardrums were also sanctified with yet another Alex Sonata splendor entitled ‘Phoenix.’ This latest release is just as glorious as the last one ‘Sunrise,’ which features British female vocalist LJ Ayrten. Sonata, the Scotish born DJ and producer has left quite an impression in the market recently, and his career growth has gotten him huge support from Gareth Emery, Armin van Buuren, W&W, Paul van Dyk and many more. His inspiring remix of Christina Novelli’s track ‘Same Stars’ has reached over 30,000 views on YouTube in just 3 weeks, so there is no doubt that he is set for success as he is taking the scene by storm.
